The cable FX TV show “Louie” is played by comedian Louis CK, in a pseudo-biographical series. He’s a middle-aged white man, divorced from a black wife, and raising his “white-looking” daughters on his own. Most of the gags involve his fallible nature and quirks on how he sees life. For those keeping up with ABC’s new TV lineup, you might notice a lot of new minority-based TV shows. One of them is “Fresh Off The Boat” or “Far East Orlando” which is based on the memoir of American celebrity chef Eddie Huang. The main setup is about how an immigrant family struggles to assimilate with American culture. The term “fresh off the boat”, of course, is a derogatory term used against Asians who immigrate to the United States and have difficulty fitting in. It’s the equivalent of “fish out of water”. It’s not as efficient as immediate help from people around you, but if you REALLY REALLY GOTTA TEXT, assuming you can use your fingers, then you can text to 911 along with your location and your emergency. Of course, this won’t work unless you have texting service. Smart phones don’t automatically have a stress beacon.
It’s only available for certain regions right now, but service is provided by major providers AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile.
