I suppose, if I don’t do a mockup, I won’t see what it could possibly look like. Back when I first created the Agent S character, I was basing it on Trigun among other popular anime at the time, and they were all wearing leather. Now it’s all metallic armor, or like the live-action CG Iron Man. The goal is to come up with the newest gimmick that everyone, yes even Jim Lee can’t resist but to knock off.

I’m using either just the on-camera flash or using a standing key light. With the flash, the light is so bright, it actually “flattens” out your face and makes it look wider that it actually is. So what you have to do is go into Photoshop and deepen those midtones, in essence, model out your own face again. With the standing light, I just wanted to see if I could get that highlight on the top of my hair. Now that I know it works, I need a reflector so I can fill in the shadow in the front, since the light doesn’t reach my face.

Hey, it’s a learning process. I’m not ashamed to admit it.

  • Official Design for Doomsday in Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice

Doomsday is a subterrain creature from deep in Krypton’s core. So his bones and blood is pure Kryptonite. It glows from white to green when he gets angry. Much like an elephant would kill a human, Kal-el really can’t stop Doomsday, not even on Krypton. It’s all relative.

  • Preparing Your Comic Book for Lulu.com Publishing

    By Chongchen Saelee

I thought I’d write a quick cheat sheet on how to prepare your first comic book for Lulu.com publishing. This is for their US Trade paperback format of 6 inches by 9 inches per page. Your page count may vary. What you get with this setup is a color glossy cardstock cover, and black and white pages.

    Setting up the interior pages

If you don’t intend to have any full page bleed artwork, you can setup your page template to be exactly 6 inches by 9 inches. Even then, make sure you set a safety margin of at least 0.125 inches so your content is properly visible in case it gets cropped off. (more…)
