Cassette tape? Remember those? If you have the insight, it&#8217;s similar to<!--more--> our elders&#8217; hip track, 8-tracks or vinyl records. Anyway, I also found my copy of &#8220;Batman and Robin&#8221; and &#8220;Men in Black&#8221; soundtracks. \u00a0Wanted to see if the thing could still play.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-216 aligncenter\" title=\"casette_tape_digitize01\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.eastfist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/casette_tape_digitize01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"338\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eastfist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/casette_tape_digitize01.jpg 338w, https:\/\/eastfist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/casette_tape_digitize01-300x284.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So I put two AA batteries into the thing, and when it started up, the radio tuner was good. However, when I put Batman and Robin in, Eric Benet&#8217;s voice was very &#8220;soulful&#8221;, deep and croaky. \u00a0I assumed the player was broken, or the tape was worn out. \u00a0Even Jewel&#8217;s beautiful voice sounded more like Jeremy Irons doing &#8220;Lion King&#8221;. \u00a0Fortunately, after playing it a while, the audio quality returned to normal. Whew.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.eastfist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/casette_tape_digitize02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-217 aligncenter\" title=\"casette_tape_digitize02\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.eastfist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/casette_tape_digitize02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eastfist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/casette_tape_digitize02.jpg 318w, https:\/\/eastfist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/casette_tape_digitize02-298x300.jpg 298w, https:\/\/eastfist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/casette_tape_digitize02-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That got me thinking whether I should rip these tracks now and digitize them or just buy the CD. \u00a0Sure, I could buy the CD, but where would the fun be in plugging all the cables up and seeing if the dinosaur technology was compatible with the new stuff?<\/p>\n<p>Turns out, after some trouble getting the PC drivers to give permission to accept the audio input, I was quickly recording and encoding these old tracks. \u00a0However, the quality isn&#8217;t pristine, but who&#8217;s going to be listening to these tracks other than myself, having listened to them hundreds of times. \u00a0It&#8217;s no different than recording those scratchy tracks off the FM radio way back in yesteryear on those long, boring summer days.<\/p>\n<p>Sure brings back the memories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was digging through old junk in the basement out of boredom (but mainly because the weather up here in the tundra has become a miserable, humid circus) and found my old portable cassette tape player.
