Let me take a minute, just sit right there. I’ll tell you a story about the Prince of Bel-Air.<\/p>\n

Imagine this: a modern retelling of the classic Will Smith sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” starring Will as Uncle Phil and some up-and-comers as the young cast to milk their Academy-Award winning performances. My cast:<\/p>\n

Now that Will is an old man, he can play stern, caring Uncle Phil:
\n\"Will<\/p>\n

Aw, c’mon, it’s a given, Jada’s gotta play Phil’s supportive wife and The Fresh Prince’s maternal aunt Vivian:
\n\"Jada<\/p>\n

And NBC’s Donald Glover can play Carlton, his “whitewashed” son:
\n\"Donald<\/p>\n

Nicki Minaj as materialistic, airhead daughter Hilary:
\n\"Nicki<\/p>\n

So… who would play the new Fresh Prince? Who’s a young black actor that can be a very good role model for tomorrow’s youth? Don’t say Jaden. Jaden would NOT be convincing in an American “Great Expectations” context: from the ‘hood to the nines.<\/p>\n

Also, notice that I didn’t have a choice for Ashley, Phil’s youngest daughter. That’s because when we’re telling these coming of age stories, we need to introduce a new life when an old one passes. Metaphorically speaking, we’d introduce Ashley when Will’s past life is forgiven and he accepts his new life with his “new” family. Vivian would, of course, give birth to Ashley and Will would now become a proud “uncle\/cousin”. He was quite protective of her in the series, so this isn’t that far-fetch. And, of course, then this would open a chance to start a new TV series with the babysitting adventures of the new Fresh Prince (they already did this at the end of the series with little Nicky, but I’m trying to Nolanize this).<\/p>\n
