My attempt to create self portraits with sharper-edged shadows, thus making myself look more masculine. You do this by putting the light source closer to the subject, in this case, my face. It doesn’t quite have the same effect as the flash because my bulbs might be a lower color temperature (3500K rather than 5500K, even though it says it is 5500K on the bulbs, mighta been duped).

Five-dollar Millionaire Self Portrait

Five-dollar Millionaire (self-portrait) I just shaved today.

Too Beautiful A Man (self portrait) A world a difference some facial hair makes.
And, the best of today’s self portraits…

The Greek, yes, minimal retouching, all flash Used the flash and got a surprisingly decent result. The hot light gives a deep shadow but also very sharp and crisp look. The shadow underneath my jaw makes me look more masculine. In my other shots, the softer light wraps around my chubby, boyish face, so I can never quite look as hunky. (I knew I looked different in the previous photos than I see myself in the bathroom mirror!)

Another step forward for SDXM, my 2D game engine being built with Qt and c++. Possible usage is for underwater levels where the effect can be applied to the frame buffer, transitions between stages, or other fancy 2D gimmicks. (more…)
